Hello
Been busy at Heathrow but keep checking in.
I need to fit an extractor on my bathroom. The open window isn’t enough & I’ve spotted a few mould spots on the ceiling.
Do they need to vent outside or if venting into the loft does it need a hose & roof vent fitted?
Cheers all

I typically vent through the ceiling into the loft BUT then use insulated vent pipe to take it out through the soffit. Not sure if that is good or bad.

I was thinking into loft & then hose to roof vent.

I totally agree with battle.
I prefer through the external wall & a fan with a Humidity Stat.
Poorly ventilated First Floor rooms are a killer for houses. Someone once said & it’s a great analogy; ‘If you’re upstairs, how quickly can you smell burn toast from your Kitchen? That’s how quickly damp, warm air travels’!!

I fitted a vent axis fan with a humidistat. It’s connected using a switch in the airing cupboard as we don’t always have the lights on in there.
It’s turned on 24/7 & comes on & off automatically
Quite quiet, cost just under £100.
Pleased with it

Wish I'd read Battle's comments a few years ago before fitting 3 shower fans. I wasn't certain at the time if the humistats do a good job so I fitted ceiling PIR sensors. After a mistake with the first one, I realised if you fit the sensor just outside the shower/bath but point it facing in with masking it works flawlessly.

Back in the day, we did a lot of Ventilation Work, a lot of Contracts had it lumped in with the Commercial Heating. So I could bore you to tears with my knowledge of Damp & ventilating Rooms. In fact, Lidl were selling Humidistats for under a tenner the last time I was in buying the Giant Empire Biscuits & Steaks👍👍 It’s fairly simple to check for surfaces that humid air will condense on & causing Black Spots. A Lidl Giant Empire Biscuit as the Major Prize, if anyone can tell me the name of the Pirate Tale about the Black Spot!,
