Yes, the modern stuff is OK. It was frowned upon with the older Linseed Oil based Boss White type compounds.
If you’re doing several new Rad valves, Liquid PTFE from Screwshit is good👍👍

yes you can AJ, although wrapping ptfe the right way round ( clockwise) will do, As Dick says in our youth boss white and hemp was used and it was better but the H+S banned it because it contaminated the water,What the H+S don't realise is, no one drinks central heating water, but hey ? The only problem with ptfe is, if you unwind the joint to line the fitting, it will leak so, putting some compound on, will allow a bit of 'tweeking of the joint, so yes use both,,,

I always do 18 turns of PTFE, never weeps, probably could do less but I'm superstitious so I'll stick with my lucky number 😁. I wind the valve in a tiny bit anti clockwise at the start to get the click, then you know you're not screwing it in cross threaded. Wind it in then clockwise with adjustables til it's getting tough to wind it in.... but don't murder it home👍

Has anyone used the liquid thread?
It’s supposed to be good but I don’t trust it.
As said, 18 turns of ptfe & it won’t leak.

Most are an anaerobic glue which are now fairly commonly used on Plumbing Threads. Common product names; That Rapid Blue Stuff Liquid PTFE(Screwfix) Loctite 577 Etc etc. You can also join End Feed fitting & copper tube with these glues.
