Recently I’ve come across a lot of old Vented systems with no Open Vent off the SE boiler. Of course some old dear wants her Heat Only boiler changed & fitting a Vent Pipe to the new Condensing Boiler is a bit of a nightmare. Apart from fitting a Servowarm Plant Pot, what have others done? These old systems would not stand the increase in pressure of a Sealed System. What have others done? Cheers chaps👍👍

When I came across that situation, I'd take the tank out of the system and make it pressurized . They'd get the obligatory warning first how It might damage the pipes and old rads and. Only once did that ever happen, it was a 40 year old radiator which had never been changed because of its awkward size and it was paper thin, It blew open during the test fill, Black slime all over the carpet So, After an insurance claim from their home insurance ( cleverly worded by the home owner) I got the job of replacing the offending rad and another rad as well, KERRR Ching

An whole estate close to me in the 90s was built with open vent systems with just a 22mm cold feed. A mate of mine bought one and I did numerous jobs for him and decided if it all works I'd leave well alone. I put it down to the fact that the pump had been fitted at high level in the cylinder cupboard and it was done to prevent any pump over issues. About 10 years ago I was offered the job of renewing the boiler which I had to decline being now non gas-safe registered. I have been since and the system was converted to pressurised at the same time of the boiler renewal like tom says it was convert with an expansion vessel.
Was it in danger of blowing up with that 22mm cold feed and no vent? It must have passed the building regs at the time.

I’ve been thinking about it further, the Pros & Cons of just fitting a Combi & on the grand scale of things, that’s what I’ll do. If the Intergas Rapid combi were still a Value Boiler, I’d go for one of them. As you can operate it at a lower pressure, but they’re just too expensive now. And there’s just not enough in the old dear’s budget for hydronic separation etc.
