They're new ones popping up all over the place these days from a trend that for me was started by our own Tom Plum many years ago now. I've recently been watching Caprani uploads from Nathan and whilst I would have personally hated to have worked for them I have found them entertaining. I also like to keep a watch on "Plumb Like Tom" (not our tom) and "MJ Tiff Plumbing" . It's quite nice looking in without having to role my sleeves up these days .

Thanks for the mention Tappy, I was inspired by, Big tony, an American plumber who was bigger than a Bus, he struggled even to speak and I thought. yea I'll try it but I'm poor at technology so my video quality was in ' black and white' compared to today, My videos were meant as tutorials for the up and coming CCC's as dick knighted them and. it worked,I had lots of good comments and thanks from new comers, I think my first vid was 2009 so. I had a good run, Todays new lads seem to be entertaining but, less informative in my opinion,

Never in the same league as our host! But the trade has changed, social media gives many the wrong approach, they’re so easily influenced by what they see on social media. You now see guys in the Plumbers’ Merchants with designer clothes, adorned with a Gas Safe logo......How the fuck do they stay clean, they’re Plumbers FFS!!.....Do they ponce around all day, changing washers? ’Plumb like Tom’ is very, very good. This young man is very Skilled, with a very diverse range of work. Plus, he looks like a Plumber, not a prize poofter like many of the others.

Mind they’ve got the image, equipment and the bills that you incur with that show business look, so their charging structure will match it.

I think the likes of Andy Cam & Alan Heart will do very nicely as ‘Influencers’. Rumour has it they’re getting £20-£30K per endorsement.

Some of them are making a lot of money from Youtube and other social media.
I think when Tom started there was either no money at all or it was a pittance - that wasn't the reason (I think) Tom and others did it.
Now its just so obvious they are doing it for views, for clicks, for subscribes . No problem though - if they can make decent money out of it good luck to them.
Found myself watching some crazy bloke who is building a bunker bigger than his house under his house. Crazy stuff but the fellow gets (I'm not kidding) up to 10 MILLION views. That would pay him plus or minus a couple of hundred grand per video. Probably enough to buy his house.....

I think dds referring to the time when tom posted his very first "toms tips" video JJ. Interesting that tom got his inspiration from an American guy but it still was quite an inspiring thing to do back in the screwfix forum days.

It seems that from the content posting that videos were plumbing goes wrong are more popular than the old type of instructional "this is how you do it" ones. Shows how things are changing when a "wet vac" is now part of the current plumbers tool kit. I do agree that it must be a good additional source of income else why would they bother to do it. Interesting how fast pressing fittings seems to be moving fast forwards in the trade since I retired.

I never made a penny and I never expected anything but now, its gone stupid, I got a sales call one day, " make as much money as you want from your own home, no skills, not talking no cold selling, Some of out operatives clear £5000 per month without leaving the chair" Ya gotta follow that up yea ? It was a company who gave you videos to click on as many times as you like and each click paid you, ( small amount) I can't remember the figure but it was like the value of a necter point, Those clicks cost the advertizer a cost, that cost is passed with a percentage to the product company, the product company pass that on plus a percentage to the consumer, Its a paper shuffling in biblical proportions and its we the buys of the product who pay it,

Interesting how fast pressing fittings seems to be moving fast forwards in the trade since I retired. I’ve two Wet Vacs, one is a Wicks Type 240vac corded one & my favourite is the wee 18v battery Mikita one. They’re very handy if doing maintenance work cf. As for the Press Fit Wankers, no I don’t like using Press Fit. The fittings are extortionate & you just can’t get the jaws into tight locations. Plus, it’s an O Ring fitting. Much better with old fashioned solder.

I can see how handy the wet vacs can be to plumbers, however, they're not really a item of of our generation of plumbing (some properties even had those round pin plugs when I first started). A few old rags to mop up with was all we would have in the van for cleaning up.
The thinking on press guns popularity is how dangerous it is to use a blow lamp in a property these days. The day's not not too far away when plumbers blow lamps are assigned a place in the plumbing museum (now whoever would have thought a "plumber without a blow lamp")
I worked with an apprentice just before I retired who was shit scared of my blow lamp (all he wanted was push-fits) and couldn't solder!
PS 18 months on and he's now passed all his exams and Gas-Safe registration and I bet he still cannot solder a capillary joint!!
