What's everyone's preference for removing an olive from a pipe if it's needed to be done? A puller, an olive cutter or the old hacksaw and screwdriver? Or something else? Just curious. Thanks.

I use the old ‘crush the Olive’ with grips mostly. But I do have an Olive Splitter & Puller. 9 times out of 10 you can crush the Olive & remove it👍👍

Yeah, the hacksaw is what I use, that's if I can't twat it off with the nut and adjustable panner underneath (as tom once showed us).
The splitters do work well but are quite pricey for a tool you only use occasionally .

It’s funny, when you think about it, only a handful of tools is all you really need. But for me, I’m daft, I just keep buying tools. I put it down to an Apprentice in the early 70’s, I couldn’t afford to buy good tools, so I’ve been buying them ever since!!

At a firm that I once worked for someone once passed a comment about another plumber who had very few tools by saying "Jack Robbins is the best plumber on here". We all looked puzzled at the guy then laughed as he added "all he's got to work with is a pair of scissors"!

I have in the past had some success at twisting the olive off with grips but need to be very careful I don't deform the pipe. Is that what you are talking about or do you mean grabbing one section of the olive and crushing it even while its stuck to the pipe? Wouldn't that cause the olive to cut into the pipe?

Depending on the job and location of the pipe decides what I do but knocking it if with the grips tends to be my favourite.

Each situation calls for a different approach and , It won't jump off or it was't doing its job so. slowly slowly catchy monkey is the best way, if you have the room, impact sliding down the pipe with an adjustable spanner is favourite , unfortunately you don't get that all the time, One of our members brought a good way up and it was, Tapping the olive with an hammer and it works good but, you need the room to do it,

I think that was a brew cabin prize winner in an early tip contest. I'd never come across it before either and yes it works,

Gently crush & turn the Olive with your Grips Dafty. Take it easy & you’ll not deform the pipe👍👍 Twist the Olive off the pipe & remove the nut.
