A ‘friend’ removed a OV boiler & vented HW system & storage tank etc when fitting a new combi(known as a conversion). So all H&C pipes are now High Pressure. All viable pipes were clipped, but there’s now a hellish Water Hammer. The WC fill valve is OK & there’s a Shock Arrester at the Combi.
Anyone got any ideas of what to try?

Well I would start at the burner pressure and reduce it to see if it has an affect - to prove its not overfiring. Temperature swings cause water hammer too!
I would consider how good he restructured the pipe work and if any zone valve bodies are in incorrectly to the spring closing against flow.
I would look at the condensate system make sure the pipework isn’t undersized or blocked or pitched wrong you get crazy problems.
After that I would have to start spending money.

In the old days we used to fit a lenght of copper tube with no out lets to form a 'dead end' it acted as a shock arrester but was outlawed in the 1990's water bylaws as a place where germs to breed,

However, as you say they changed their tune, as always!!!😡😡 Just for clarification, it’s on the Hot & Cold system.

Go round the system isolating and operating valves, but if you can't find the cause, treat the symptom with a little hammer arrestor. It does what Tom was on about but is allowed under regs.

These days I think it's a worn spindle in one of the 1/4 turn taps, question is which one? In a lot of cases it's the hot tap on the sink that's the favourite. Quite often the faulty tap will run when a different tap is open. It can be a case of renewing the inserts or even the complete tap one by one until the noise stops. JJ had the problem and put up a post/video about this common modern day fault a few years ago.

A few years before I retired I had a complaint of the same nature at a property, however, I could never trigger the noise whilst I was there! It eventually turned out to be the worn faulty tap insert but it was in a tap that was fitted next door and the noise was rattling through the walls ! NB. On another job I was trying to trace some water hammer which turned out to be that the poor old dear was suffering from tinnitus. I can still hear her saying "whoosh, whoosh, can't you hear it"? The joys of being a maintenance plumber eh?

I can't remember if I posted it before here but its a similar thing about a customer who had a complaint every night after I fitter her new boiler, the complaints where the telly stopped working, the toilet was noisy, the shed roof was leaking and a dozed other things I can't remember but the craziest one was a roaring noise every night at the same time, It was at 6.30 every night so I went one night ay 6.30 and sure enough the was a roar, It was a aircraft going over her house and it was about 20 miles away from Manchester airport and applying the air brakes as it was descending, I pointed that out to here and her reply was, " they never did that before the boiler was swapped" In the end I had to tell her, If you call me again for any reason at all, I will call the police that you are stalking me, That worked, she never called again ,,
