I have a Roca close couple toilet which I bought S/Hand some years ago, swapped the guts and its been fine,a while ago I started noticing a bit of water coming from under the cistern just behind the where the toilet seat is and pooling beween the the cistern and the bowl, tried the bowl fixing bolts and seemed tight and the cistern is siliconed to the wall so yesterday decided to take it off and have a look, there was a large flat rubber washer fitted between the two which I think is a Fluidmaster 22124 Euroflo but as I didnt have one and the missus had gone out in the car I decided to fit a new doughnut and in an attempt to only do this once put a load of plumbers mait both round where the doughnut sits in the toilet and under the flush nut incase thats what was leaking,I did notice in the toilet bowl 'hole' where the cistern fits there was some water but didnt think anything of it.Needless to say its worse than ever and seems to be when you flush, so I assume the water is backing up and finding its way out ,has the plumbers mait been a mistake,do I need a Fluidmaster 22124 Euroflo or is the toilet bowl passage blocked ? thanks Howard

Try a new doughnut washer with the Plumbers Mait.
I’d never strip a CC WC, without doing both of these things.
The Rule is, if it leak when not flushed, then it’s the Flush Valve Nut leaking. If it leaks when flushed, it’s the doughnut washer.
It’s unlikely to be anything but the doughnut washer. HTH

I agree with Dick, there are a few types of washer, some shaped like a dough nut, hence the name, some are a foam washer and they get squashed and fail after time and others are a rubber thin 'O' ring which are a bastard, if you can post a pic we can maybe help further .

ah battle, thats the nasty 'o' ring I mentioned, I've had more trouble with them than enough, in the eighties they were the cheapest toilet and many firm bought them and that little washer does not make up for the variations in the moulding of the pan and cistern utter rubbish,

Battles post also showed 2 syphon bolts reminded me that these are also a very popular point of leakage (often loose). hmb4u; It's very easy to not get these washers off centre (because you can't see) when you lower the cistern onto the pan. Whenever I think that I'm missing plumbing I give my "leaking toilet Friday night (1hr before knock off) special" a look and think "No. I'm not"!!

thank you for the replies,I took it apart again yesterday and dug the previous washer out the bin as I thought that was the original but realise now it might not be,anyway went down to the local plumbers merchants CHP in Stoke and while they didnt have one he dug through a box of spurious washers and gave me a large foam washer so installed that and so far so good.As I think I said the opening in the bowl is quite shallow and there is already about 5mm of water in it,pouring a jugful in showed how quick it fills up ,the inner ring where a doughnut sits seems deformed so even with plumbers mait and my inexperience it found its way past.
