I was right with "plumb like Tom" fitting this type of cloakroom free standing whb on a plasterboard wall. Cloakroom whbs used to be horizontal and didn't have the frontage that these oval ones have and generally I could get these to hold on the brackets without much trouble. The first one of these oval type that was passed over the counter to me I quite innocently took without realising the problems that I was going to have fitting it (just like tom). I think he would have done better with fitting one of those metal plates to the wall first. Hindsight would a fantastic tool for the trade! Once I was called to a similar job were the plumber had stuck the whb on with mastic on the back and propped it up overnight. The next day day the costumer took the timber away and it fell straight on the floor . Here's plumb like tom's struggle....

I told him what he did was not a support for the Basin Bracket CF. He just put a bit of Plywood in behind the Plasterboard. He should’ve got the Joiners back to fix proper noggins/dwangs.
He’s a fantastic young, diverse Tradesman. But I think he’s involved in a family business & taking on too much. He’s running around like a blue arsed fly!!

He does seem to be under a lot of pressure and unable to switch off, which is not a good thing you need to be able to relax. Me old gaffer would do that plywood trick, so it's not really a new one (he was too tight to buy any cavity fixings ). In my previous post I mentioned the old "oval" cloakroom basins which didn't accurately describe them. "Oblong" would have been a better word. I would always look at fitting a pedestal first if I was presented with one of these new designed rounded cloakroom WHBs to fit. Terrible design.. You really need a backing plate if it's to be free standing and hopefully you will find some timber to secure the backplate to, then the WHB bolts on to the backplate. However, I do understand and can personally relate to the position that he found himself in.
