Is there an easy way of replacing an old style 15mm stop cock with a current modern type where the olives sit further into the valve like the old style, so it's a quick simple swap as its in a difficult location?

If its difficult battle make a slip coupling out of a compression fitting then cut the pipe remove the old stop cock and olives replace with the new one, slid coupling into position and tighten up.

Hi PB - yes I could do that but it's been concreted in after the nuts both side and it's horrible access and I feel a nightmare in the making.

Possibly but didn't know you could get service items! Well that type of repair never entered my head so it's a thought - thanks for that PB.

I've done it many times battle, make sure you use a reseating tool too as stop cocks get heavy water wear.

Now that would be usable in the access space and feel that would be my backup, cause it's going to be live as I've not seen another method of turning it off elsewhere.

Don't entertain doing it live battle.
Pass it on to the local water authority to find the boundary stop tap for you (it belongs to them and they'll do it for free) if you can't find it.
Stop taps are always "TROUBLESOME", so approach with extreme caution!!
