I go with what the others are set at, a rule of thumb is above the skirting board but , sometimes the skirting is too low ( 2 inch ) or too high ( 12 inch) those are extremes but you do see them, its a case of, what looks good, and like PB says 150mm ( 6 inch ) looks good to me,

I did a vid recently where i'd fitted 2 rads for a women, one was under a window and had to be set low because of the window sill height, I set the other at 6 inches off the floor, when she came home she did't like it and wanted the other the same height ( 2 inches) off the floor,

You should have raised the one under the sill up by 4" Tom, that would learn her.
Bloody women! Should have been happy with the 6 inches.

Didn’t need to take valves off & cut. Looks to close to the floor for me!!!

The modern trend is to fit them higher than I used to when I was on installations. On drops, clips/pipes are normally fitted these days to the wall just above the skirting board so by the time you've got a bend in up to the valve it could be well over 12" from the floor (which at one time would be looked upon as being too high). The old argument was that you've got 12" of cold air below that radiator, but of course it doesn't matter because the radiators convection currents will warm the air below the radiator. My old gaffer used to say fit them 1/2" above the top of the skirting board so that the top of the skirting can be easily wiped clean. We would always clip our pipes to the skirting board with copper saddle clips/black jap screws too. Then and now!

What did you use to make that sling Tom? I’m going to make one. Excellent idea when you’re on your own.
