Ian the Dollop & all these messy bastards are history, I use Speedskim. It was always an unskilled job & never a trade, but any cunt can do it now👍👍👍 I jumbled up the letters of "Plastering" and ended up with "Lent a Grips"............can't find my grips now...

nice to see your back,Ian.👍, What's your views on using a sponge float (Refina)2 coats or one? 👍 Thanks endfeed. I don't use a sponge other than for finishing sand and cement render. Some people love them for skimming but I just stick to steel trowels as I cant be arsed with washing out a sponge all the time. I would always recommend 2 coats but 1 coat is possible with the correct timing if you have put a good coat on and flattened it off nice.

The sponge used to delaminate from the trowel a lot aswell but it`s years since I bought one and the refina ones seem well made. Are you using the soft sponge ones or the orange rubbery one?

The orange ones are a bitch to clean. Have you had the pleasure of little balls of plaster stuck in the bubbles in the foam yet? I don't have any of the flex trowels/speedskims as they don't get the plaster as flat as a proper trowel. Plus they are another tool that require babying or they are fucked in no time. They aren't a bad tool but I can do the same with my marshaltowns. I use a 16" stainless for pretty much everything.

Yes mate. Those orange sponges really hold on to the skim so you have to have plenty of clean (ish) water and give it a right good scrubbing/kneading with your hand. They are much tougher than the soft sponge floats though so better for rubbing up if your skim has set too much.
At least you have found the clinkers now and not when you are in a panic trying to save a wall. That would be a double kick in the balls.

I'd give it to my new made in china blow lamp for under £20.00.
I think it was endfeed who informed us about the 1/2" 3/4" open ended ring spanner, that's a very close second place, I'm finding it very handy on those inaccessible filling loops.

Its defo the best purchase I have made this year but I would't say it was a tool, more of a toy, greensmilies-010 I would class it as both Tom. It gets you from A to B, (A) being home and (B) being pub/offey,that's the tool element. You enjoy it's functions, that's the toy element.
