I fitted a new fill valve a few week ago for a Facilities company I do little bits for.
Yesterday they said it was overflowing into the pan again. It’s an emergency & I need to go.
I told them I was busy & id go today.
Turned up, not overflowing. Flushed it 20 times, all working lovely
I sent my invoice for £65.
They said we’re not paying it. I said ok, I’ll go back & remove the fill valve. I’m not playing games with you. They tried to kick off.
They said they’ll pay.
I think it’s only right i charge. If it was faulty id have fixed it for free.
Even the maintenance man on site said it was all ok!!

I had a bit of a pelarva today. Got a call to a leak under a bath and said I'd look but may not have time to sort it today depending on what the issue was. About a 3 mile round trip and I was in and out in 5 minutes. Bath panel slid off dead easy, ran the tap and it was leaking from a loose compression fitting on the 40mm waste, dead easy fix, literally just tightened it up and ran the tap again to see it was now sealed well. Only charged £30 cos it was such a quick job and local, only took about 20 minutes out of my day. This was at about 3 o'clock. Since then I've had 4 phone calls and a long text accusing me of ripping them off. There's still the odd drip now and then from the ceiling below so they think that for my £30 I should have spent a couple of hours lifting floorboards and ensuring there was no other leaks in the house. I've explained 3-4 times that it's probably still dripping from the water that has pooled under the bathroom floor and if it carries on without slowing down and stopping then I'll come have another look but not for free, but it's like I'm talking a different language. Sometimes I very briefly long for the good old PAYE days and not giving a toss, it passes quickly though

I've told this story before, A nieghbour of mine, old biddy, knocked on my door and asked me to fix her tap, I went round and rewashered her tap I charged her £10, a few days later she knocked on my door again and said, Its still leaking, I went round and explained that the seat was knackered, the taps are from 1960, so thats all i can do, I told her i can fit new taps for £50 and she said, I'll think about it, the next day she knocked on my door again and said, I dont want new taps, I've paid you to fix them, so i want them fixing. I said, here's your tenner back, Ask the gas board, they are good at fixing old taps, she's not been back since,

I said, here's your tenner back, Ask the gas board, they are good at fixing old taps, she's not been back since, Similar story from the other side: We moved into to our house nearly 10 years ago. The first winter I was trying my hand at draining down the CH and when I came to fill up no CH. So I called my local plumber who was on his way back from London (we are in the SE but well outside London). He turned up at about 6.30pm. Immediately diagnosed the issue as airlocks within the CH and spent at least an hour telling me to run up/down/here/there turning on/off radiators and eventually got the pump to start pumping. He wanted twenty quid. That is absolutely fuck all for down here to come out, come out late and spend more than an hour. Turns out he lives not too far away. I obviously gave him what he asked, a decent bottle of wine on top and next time we needed a boiler service (he was GS) we chose him. I wouldn't have dreamed to have blamed him for anything - he basically worked for free.

Customers always know more about plumbing than the actual plumber!

Had 2 calls and 2 texts off them before I woke up today. I'm passing there on my way to get some shopping today so told them I'll drop the £30 off. Will be worth it to shut them up I'm certain that they're just being like this to get the money back, I fixed the leak but some people aren't honest and some 'communities' tend to be more inclined this way, 30 notes just isn't worth the hassle. I was only in there 5 minutes so not a very expensive lesson learned

No way should you give it back jc. You should go back , have a look, if your repair is still sound ,say job stands ,and payment.
However ,if there is another leak, or you want some exploration work doing, this is extra (and upfront.) take a pic aswell.
