I had to strip down a water pump on our road sweeper last week. First clue on a job that was going to get me "tetchy", was that shit wrapped around the OUTSIDE!!?? of the fitting!!!! Keeps me in a job, so shouldn't complain. BUT....
On the rad side, TRADES are SO EASY! I'm currently learning open heart surgery, but struggling because my vise grips are too slack, and the cold chisel is too sharp... Back to you tub...

See these arseholes that put PTFE on compression threads๐ก๐ก๐ก Boss White(generic name) every olive & you're golden. I like the Jet Blue stuff ๐๐ Nine years ago my brother bought a house from a DIY Johnny. He left his calling card on the compression nuts of the rad valves on the kitchen rad. Nine years later it's still there.
Done plenty of jobs on his plumbing but never had to do anything with the kitchen rad yet. Every time I catch sight of the offending rad, I curse DIY Johnny for giving me one more job to do - that I'll maybe never get round to. Hope no one thinks I'm the twat who wrapped the PTFE where it shouldn't go.

I don't use PTFE on compression joints, I solder everything ! Money no object on your job PB. I mean one joint is one roll of solder "perfection!!"

I'm no plumber... but isn't he just building up the gap to compensate for the lack of nut and olive?
