I always say that chrome fittings need that little extra turn more than brass ones do when tightening up.

I just Paste the Olive & tighten it up, brass or copper. Rarely have any problems. Once you’re above 28mm you really need to give compression fitting some welly - tighten them with big Stillies!!

I PTFE my olives most of the time, sometimes if I have no PTFE or the pipe work is inaccessible then I won't bother. Does that make me a cowboy? >.<

cowboy is a term for people who don't know what they are doing, So I would say no, you are not a cowboy, you're just using another method, if it works, its good, I'm showing the way I was shown and i know it works, if your way leaks and you know it leaks but do nothing, that is cowboy,

Good tip for cylinders Tom
My mate tried to nip one up & oops. Didn’t rush out but it was dripping.

PTFE on an olive is excusable. Sometimes it can help a compression joint seal. It's a method I would only use as a last resort, as I normally paste olives which is fine in 99.9% of cases.
But if I see PTFE on the compression nut thread, I know that a DIYer has been there before me.
