Can anyone please tell me if you rate these things and if they are reliable. I'm thinking of using one under the sink so I don't have to pull the washing machine out every time I need the water off

no mate they are not reliable, my advice would be fit a stoptap before it and after it to make it easy to change when it fails,

Not had a lot to do with them CN - everybody wanted one 10 years ago, however, it's years since I last had one to fit and nobody seems to even talk about them nowadays.
They could be an item of the future for my imaginary "museum of failed plumbing inventions"!
The very few that I've used have all worked though, so I guess that's a positive for them.

Rubbish!
I fitted a few ten years ago but only one or two remain to this day.
I remember the merchants were selling them off cheap in 2009 so I bought about 5 and had them in my van so long the packets fell apart and all the bits scattered and lost.

Well....... Thanks to you all. It would seem a very clear consensus that they are in fact shyte I suppose the ball ache of turning a isolating valve off a couple of times a year is nothing compared to mopping up a kitchen floor and having to replace a surestop switchy thingy Thanks all......you have saved me hours of grief

Thought I'd do a little video on the sure stop in order to preserve it's place in time.

Not sure or not if this is a good idea or not but could you fit a CH motorised valve and wire it into a regular switch ?
DEfinitely not sure what pressure the MVs are rated too or any other issues so lets see if the idea gets slapped down or not...

I've seen plenty motorised valves on mains pressure in car wash machines etc but they all are tagged with there pressure rating. However as for if a Honeywell MV would do the job possibly could but your just waiting for it to fail in the action to close against such pressure.

I had an insurance company contact me years ago asking if I would fit these for their clients, they delivered to me 12 sure stops and I fitted about 4 I think. I can't remember being paid for this... Or did I bill the clients direct? Did this anyone else do this or was it just a dream I had LOL...

just watched a plumberparts video on youtube enstrolling the virtues of the new surestop controlled via the internet( available for his amazon shop) so with the help of another leak detecting gizmo you can switch off your mains while on holiday, think the surestop is £275 alone and couldn't help thinking you could do that with a mains water valve and a sonoff for about £30 ?
