it happens a lot in our trade, some genuine , some time wasters and some complete wankers, Its a ' numbers game' there are good plumbers out there but many many chanchers , cowboys and ' pups' The main reason I started of toms tips, then this forum, I fear I'm on a losing battle field,,

update got gas safe plumber to relocate pipe i plastered it myself. all he did was cut the 15mm pipe on the side. soldered 15mm elbow and then i think he soldered a reducer to micro bore pipe and then put a compression end on the end of micro bore pipe. Only took him 10 mins max.

Looks like plastic protected copper pipe they've used. Looks like the old fireback is still in place? As the flue is in good condition (although a lot of gas men would insist on fitting a liner) it is OK to do this (or it was the last time I was an RGI)! Have you mixed some cement in that plaster aj?

I think you're right and I definitely don't want to get into arguing as you've helped me with plumbing quite a bit in the past. But surely you could scare anyone with many things? I mean what about DIY changing brake pads - no doubt there are some bad stories there. Even BBQ gas bottles could kill. But sparks is the obvious one (other than mains gas). Surely the most important thing is not who did it but what was done ?

Very true, equally you can have surgeons who leave tools behind in people's bodies after operations so even people with all the qualifications and paperwork can mess up too👍

Looking good aj and dare I say retro looking back to the time before the trade got the shits about fitting gas fires.
If your cold this winter you just turn it on for a few minutes to get the room nice and warm and then off again.
All these government energy savings are based on affording to heat homes to the governments comfort levels in the first place (you have to be able spend it in order to save it).
And very few people will be afford able to heat their homes this year to those comfort levels!

I'm quite chuffed with the result. The gas safe engineer needs to check it out. hopefully it will pass his high standards.
