I lost you JJ, when you headed off down the A1, never to be seen again!! I was heart broken!!......I’m not too sure why you left Jockoland? No Trains or Ferries, the roads are full of Potholes. The highest death rates for Alcohol & Drugs in Europe. The kids are getting sex lessons in Skool at age 5 - by transvestites! Etc etc etc etc.......And, all the politicians are being arrested for fraud. But apart from that, it’s a great place to live!!
PS Delta T is simply the differing temperatures; Flow Pipe 50°C & Return Pipe 30°C is a 20°C Delta T between the two pipes.

When we moved in there were 2 more in the garage but I removed them. I'm doing ok but doesn't mean I want a bad job done or be ripped off.

What for? How much am I going to save with a boiler that even if I install myself will cost over a grand and last 8 years. And if you install it, I'd rather spend the cash on a new car....

Must say that I'm in agreement with you DD. After all those TV adverts 12 years ago telling us to fit a new boiler and save £££s "Just do the maths" we were told! So 8 years ago I bit the bullet and converted my entire 30 year old system to a condensing combi boiler with all the TRVs and latest money saving stats. I sat back and looked forward to all the money I'd be saving on my winter gas bill (an extra holidays worth in the Bahamas at least I thought). Guess what....? My ruddy winter gas bill actually went up in price!!

Nothing too technical from me, I just upgraded the older radiators for the modern convector type, re-piped the old microbore system and fitted the required TRVs to every radiator except the one with the room stat. I thought I was going to be quid's in with my new TRVs and condensing Baxi combi boiler . NB The old system was called "guaranteed Warmth" and was the top money saving CH system system of it's time with twin pumps (pumped primaries) a cylinder stat plus room stat and SMC programmer. So maybe it was a testimony to how efficient the old boiler/system was that I didn't actually save any money with my switch over? At least it brought us up to date and as the Mrs said it WAS an old boiler!!

Has your Baxi got connections for an Outdoor Sensor? If so fit one, Weather Compensation will save you a fortune. Then check the boiler can operate on Opentherm, if so fit an Opentherm Room Thermostat. The EPH Combi Pack 4 is a fantastic wireless stat for under £60. A heat loss calculation on your home is essential, I’m sure you can do that CF👍👍 Thank me when you get your Gas Bill👍👍

After attending countless complaints during my final years in the trade about these "fancy dancer" controls I'm more than a bit reluctant to throw money in that direction and venture down that road myself. In the testing lab's under set conditions I'm sure that they will give a very favourable return and indeed save a lot of fuel. As I've said before, if I ever were to switched on the weather compensator whilst working on the heat source the very next day I'd be inundated with complaints that I'd fucked up the tenants heating and the radiators have gone stone cold!! The Mrs (who is always cold) ever feels cold she will lift the room stat or the TRV in the room to bring them back on without any hesitation. Still you never really know unless you try it so I will give it a bit of thought and if I do put "theory into practice" I'll certainly let us all know if it's the Bahamas next year for us or Skeggy . Tappy,

Ah yes woman feeling the Cold, you know I never heard my Granny complain of the cold. Scrubbing clothes on a washboard or on the go all day, cleaning & ironing. Humphing in Coal & stoking fires. Up making Breakfast at 5am & not finished until the Dinner Washing Up was done!! Woman these days are just moaning faced & lazy.

He says it knows it’s own way home, he calls it the Racing Pigeon! He also said the Rozzers are only interested in Boy Racers & ethnics at 2 in the morning.

Tappy, Well, doing a heat loss calculation & range rating the Boiler’s CH output wouldn’t cost a lot CF. When you consider what you’re paying per year on Gas, an Opentherm Thermostat wouldn’t break the Bank either.

The thing that the boffins who make these claims don't get is that you can only save it if you can afford/willing to spend it in the first place. A slight plumbers Twist to JJs post.... "2 cars on the drive and the heating thermostat is set on zero"
Dick Is the "Whole house method" still the "in" sheet to use for heat loss calculations?
