My combi, a Main eco 25 combi won't light, I put in in during the covid lockdown and its been great but now, The pumps going, the fans running and I can heard it going through the sequence where the pilot should light but, The pilots not kicking in, So it ' times out' I've not gone any further and, I'm hoping a quick clean of the chamber of dust and spiders and a clean of the electrode will cure it, Any advice from you guys in the field is welcome, I'll be attempting a fix tomorrow with a video of it, I'll be a Dafty Duck DIYer as my Gas Registration is no longer valid, My eye sight is faded, my hands are no longer under control and my senses are weakened, The Force in no longer with me but. I'm still a tight twat and not paying £200+ for a know nowt with a psh van and a draw full of tickets, watch this space,

Tom, put your U Gauge on the Gas Inlet Test point, check the standing pressure. Now when it attempts to fire & the sequence gets to opening the Gas Valve solenoid, the Gas Pressure will drop on your U Gauge. If it doesn’t, then it’s likely to be a Gas Valve problem. To double check the Gas Valve, you need to find out the Ohms resistance of the solenoid coil & Test it, then check for ‘continuity’ on the coil.
If the Gas Valve is OK, then you’re looking at the Spark Generator & electrodes. HTH

If you can get it to fire on Service Mode, then you may have a Cold Firing issue. If it reoccurs, you may need to check the Gas Valve settings. For that you’ll need a Flue Gas Analyser.

Things have moved on from our days tom when it was all pilot light thermocouple, gas-valve, burner.
Are you up and running now?
I know from the gas guys that the air pressure switch can become faulty and that the rubber air tube itself can become disconnected from the valve also giving rise to this kind of fault.
Like I always say I'm not really one who can give an opinion on repairing a modern day combi boiler.
We were plumbers to our own generation in plumbing and our time (the modern stuff is nonetheless still very interesting) which is now slowly passing us by.

That’s very disappointing Tom, I’ve never heard of a Main/Baxi Combi only lasting 4 years.
The Main is Baxi’s budget range & that Model is their entry level appliance. But is very popular & I’ve installed 1 or 2,
I can understand your action to replace it completely & you’re more than able to do so. A DaftyDIY’er, I would have advised a Baxi Fixed price repair.
I also advise you to get your new boiler Commissioned, for which, as you know, you needs a FGA.

I know dick , I've fitted and recommended 100's if not 1000's of these boilers but, This was the first one that was A rated, The one before that was the Main boiler B rated and it lasted 15 years without service or FGA bollocks readings, Going back to before heating engineers were invented in the ccc's classes, the Baxi wall mounted balanced flue baby's would outlive your grandmother without service ,

One off repair costs FROM £417.60 . I can see why you'd replace. www.baxi.co.uk/service-and-repair/book-a-repairTerrible news Tom but at least you know what you're doing. If it was me I'd be looking at a different make/model but on the other hand all of them seem over complicated and thus prone to go wrong these days ? I suppose for someone like you replacing an identical one must make the job dead easy.

Ah yes, £417.60 is for Joe Public!!….We Artisan RGi’s, with right handshake & contact, can command a good deal on out of Warranty appliances Dafty….Its not what you know, its who you know…..That why we charge £150/hr. With Gas & Electricity, a little knowledge is very dangerous!! The Co/Co2 ratio is very, very important on Condensing Boilers. Servicing & maintenance is very important. For longevity, a skilled operative is critical.

In my video you can see the combustion chamber and the line on the back showing the amount of water in the chamber so, The burner must have been working hard to compensate for the heat loss caused by the water, My thoughts then was, What else is damaged, I'm pretty sure I fried the board because after I cleaned the burner and chamber tried to start it and it went ' BANK' ,, Thats when I took the decision to scrap it, The new boiler and flue was £865 from my local plumbers merchant and I phoned round and no one could match that price, So I cried a bit but, Hey. ya can't take it with ya,

Better luck with this one tom. I think that you must have unfortunately got a rogue boiler with that last one. That heat exchanger looked in terrible condition.
Although it's a little too late now that tom cat bloke recently also bought a new boiler for his training centre.

Unfortunately, it’s Training Centres like Tomkat, that’ve killed the domestic gas industry. Pumping out 6 week Course Cowboys & Career Change Chancers!! One minute they’re collecting Supermarket Trollies or delivering for Amazon, and then 6 weeks later, £3-4K lighter, they’re fully qualified Gas Engineers?!.........amazing!!! Then there’s Companies like BOXT, that’ll employ said CC & CCC’s to fit your boiler!!........Ah, it’s a wonderful world👍👍
