Not really a direct plumbing question but I'm sure you guys have more experience than I do at this sort of thing. Just on the off chance anyone knows why wooden kitchen worktops all seem to be made to a standard depth of 620mm? That would seem to mean worktop overhang at 40mm which is quite a lot. Are they expecting me to trim it lengthwise which I would surely fk up?

I was told the width is to suit the domestic applicence variation in depth size and wall run off cut needed for top replacement On existing install.

I’ve never seen worktops trimmed along their length.
When the base units are fitted they’re fitted so the worktop fits.
Are you fitting new units leeks?
Usually the base units are fitted to a batten.

Yep fitting new units from www.diy-kitchens.com/ - name sounds shit but from what I've read they are good. Anyway the carcass is 560mm depth with a 22mm door. As far as I know the units need to be fitted flush to the back wall ? (And if wall is uneven or not plumb presumably shimmed)

Just the laminate worktops on that site are 600mm so maybe you'll just have to get one of them instead of forcing you into a circular saw massacre! Should be able to get a solid 600mm somewhere else though.

I'm taking deliver of my new worktops tomorrow, We She started off wanting granite worktops, after a long search I could not get a price below £1500 for one top with a cut out for a sink, So we started looking at ' butchers blocks' solid woods,, much cheaper but, in my mind, its all bollocks, A laminate top will do exactly the same job as a ' butchers block', its easier to cut, handle and much much cheaper and she will never know because, she looks at prices and thinks its better if it cost's more, So tomorrow I'm having delivered 2- 3 meter laminate worktops at £120 total cost, delivered, I'll fit them while shes out and she thinks they are solid wood, that's why she is known as the ' long suffering Missus Plum' she will be happy, I will be happy and the world will be a belter place, I love it when a plan come together,, anyone grasses, and you're banned,,,,

Probably won't order the worktop until I've started fixing the units. I'm thinking of this company for the worktops. www.worktop-express.co.ukMaybe double the price of laminate and triple the bother with the oiling etc BUT still a lot less than 15x times more for stone and should look nice for the first 5 minutes. On the other hand its got to go up to the 1st floor. Need to think about getting it up there. Laminate is suddenly looking a lot more beautiful ..... ! I know stone weighs a ton but is there that much difference between chipboard and hardwood?
