This is a good tip from across the Pond, it certainly speeds up the install of PF pipe👍

his Dad was a professor in trigonometry and one night he was laid in bed next to his wife and she said, " hey big boy fancy a bit of fun" , He said "sorry babe I've not got my protractor " She grabbed his willy and he found out that night, you don't need to mark it out, just fucking do it,

If you think it might go to shit and the pipework's not too low down, have a bit of 4 inch or rainwater handy to divert the flow to a pan or out the window in an emergency while you find a solution. NB. If it is a high flow a basin or sink might not cope.

Here’s one I call ‘The Whore’s Handbag’!! The biggest problem since the introduction of Sealed Central Heating Systems has been leaks, a small leak can cause endless problems. Topping up the system regularly is not only a PITA but also bad for the system, introducing fresh water & O2 all the time.
Trying to find the leak is torture!! Ripping up floors, cutting walls etc etc is soul destroying.
So here’s the tip to find a leak in a CH sealed system; Go down the Pound Shop & buy some of that awful Whore’s Handbag perfume - the smellier the better!! Don’t tell the Wife or let her find it!! If Olive finds it, she thinks it’s me buying it for her Sister. Her sister will drop her knickers for a Penny Chew!!
Drain some water from the offending CH system & pour the Whore’s Handbag perfume in, the more the better. Leave it a week or so & tell the punters to sniff all areas of the house regularly, they’ll soon find where the leak is, minimise the search & destruction! Oh, of course it helps if they stop using air fresheners, candles etc for the duration of the test. HTH

Ref. volt pens - Obviously it should only be used to check for live not dead. Also (this is the tip) beware you won't detect voltage in shielded cable eg swa.

Also (this is the tip) beware you won't detect voltage in shielded cable eg swa. 50V can kill you, so ensure you buy a Volt Stick that’s got a 50V minimum detection rate. Also, if working on Boilers etc, these can only be an initial test before touching the casing. A full Safe Isolation procedure must be carried out on the appliance.

Your quite right dicky, "gash shave" recommend you run a volt pen over the casing as a prelim check. My issue with this advise from the gastapo is - If you're going to open a boiler you should have a proving device and in my opinion thats what should be used as a prelim check. It looks like we are being advised to check for dead with a volt stick. And (ive really got going now) when we do this prelim check, there's no advise to prove the volt pen on a known live wire before using it to indicate if the case is dead. I.e. - on to known live, on to questionable wire, back to known live wire. Perhaps my tip is "gash shave are Muppets"

I’ve got a Proving Unit to follow the procedure as per the Regs. They’re not expensive.
I nearly got killed by a faulty Neutral on a New Build Site. The Gas Pipe was the only Neutral conductor for the whole house 80 fucking Amps!! By good fortune I was wearing Rubber Gloves & only got a wee shock.
Take care out there, there’s lots of Sparks that are complete cunts!!
