That’s the ones Dafty👍👍 An easy repair & can save you a few 100 quid on a new fan. Of course, the fan blades etc need to be as clean as Nun’s Knickers, so don’t overlook that. These Fans run at a high temperature, so need maintenance.
Yeah, again any NTC(Negative Temperature Coefficient) Thermistor is easily checked in the Summer, when the CH is off. Plenty Utube videos detailing how these are checked, any basic Multimeter will measure the Ohms resistance of an NTC.
Just a general point; any Dafty can carry out boiler repairs, but there’s not just the obvious danger with a mixture of Gas, Water & Leccy. You also have the inherent danger of carbon dioxide(CO) from the products of combustion. GS Registered Plumbers have expensive test equipment to check for these dangers.
Sorry aj, If Dafty & I are hijacking your thread.

not sure if iim gong to get £298 back but i am going to try and get something back. That’s a good point. If they can’t or won’t fix it what is their terms & conditions? You might’ve had a jobsworth engineer. I say that as when my wb combi went belly up at my old house he was excellent. Changed gas valve, diverter valve, seals, new front plastic pull down panel, the electrode lighter things. Everything new. I couldn’t fault him or the service. Maybe now they have a limit of what they can spend or how long they take etc. You’ve got 2 choices, get another engineer to fix it & it may last 1/2/5+ years who knows. Or new boiler that if you don’t have serviced will have no warranty but may last 15-20 years. Im a WB fan. Also Vaillant but they’re expensive: Remember whoever fits it is going to charge £xxx amount so I’d go for something reliable.

So the fixed price repair isn't what it says on the tin. I'm sure if BG can't fix it they give you back the fixed price fee off the cost of a new boiler fitted by them (they may just jack up the price by the FP amount knowing BG though). It could be you had the bad luck of getting the WB "star employee of the month" (He can't be bothered to do any lengthy repairs and just wants to be the WB top bonus earner so condemns everything he can't get his time in with). Shouldn't ever be like this, however, I'm afraid that's very much where we are at with the trade today.
On the boiler advice I've had a Baxi Duo Tech boiler for over 7 years with one new ignition electrode in 3 services over that time. A nice easy boiler to fit and fix with plenty of available spares. The BDT was always fitted by the firm that I used to worked for (before I retired) until about 5 years ago when they moved to Potterton which I'm told by our engineers is exactly the same boiler as the duo tech but cheaper!
I'd recommend the duo tech to you though.
The Potterton does look different on the outside and when I asked our engineers they said the duo tech was the easier boiler to install.
Hope you get the boiler going before the next "artic blast" arrives ag!

Anything Baxi/Potterton/Main are all the same company. They’re good boilers 👍👍
Where to start in recommendations?? I’ve fitted, serviced & repaired 1000’s of boilers. 1/ Intergas Rapid. 2/ Main Compact (Toms) 3/ Vokera Easiheat i 4/ Glow Worm compact 5/ Anything Vaillant 6/ Ideal Logic or Clones
Etc etc etc.
Most boilers are great if properly fitted in accordance with the MIs, commissioned & connected to a clean system.
